ASC 2026 Insights: Sustainable Adhesives & Award Winning Innovation
Posted 13 5月 2026 by Rachel Gibbons, Board Member, Adhesive and Sealant Council
The 2026 Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) Convention & EXPO reinforced a clear message for manufacturers across industries: today’s adhesives are critical enablers of sustainability, digital transformation, and next generation performance.
From low carbon product design and circular packaging to data driven development and AI enabled decision making, ASC 2026 highlighted how innovation in adhesives and sealants is reshaping manufacturing. These themes closely reflect H.B. Fuller’s long standing focus on connecting performance with sustainability and efficiency.
Sustainability Is Central to Adhesive Innovation
Sustainability was embedded across nearly every technical and strategic session at ASC 2026. Rather than being treated as an add on, it is now a core design requirement and influences material selection, regulatory compliance, and end of life considerations across industries.
This mirrors H.B. Fuller’s sustainability strategy. Much of H.B. Fuller’s new product development is focused on improving the sustainability of customers’ end products, including recyclable packaging, energy efficient building solutions, and electric vehicle applications.
Adhesive technologies have quietly evolved alongside every major manufacturing transformation, enabling many of the sustainable outcomes today’s industries demand. By replacing mechanical fasteners, adhesives support lighter structures, improved energy efficiency, greater material flexibility, and enhanced recyclability across a wide range of applications, from packaging and mobility to electronics and medical devices. As manufacturers work to reduce waste, simplify assemblies, and design for the full product lifecycle, adhesives are a strategic enabler of smarter, more sustainable manufacturing. At H.B. Fuller, we continue to advance adhesive innovations that help our customers meet environmental goals while maintaining the performance, reliability, and quality modern products require.
Industry Recognition at ASC 2026: H.B. Fuller Innovation Awards
H.B. Fuller’s leadership was recognized at the ASC 2026 Innovation Awards, where the company received both First Runner Up and Second Runner Up honors — a strong endorsement of its commitment to sustainable, market ready innovation.
These awards highlight how H.B. Fuller technologies deliver measurable environmental benefits without compromising performance or productivity.
Award Winning Innovation: Millennium PG 1 EF ECO2 Technology
First Runner Up – ASC 2026 Innovation Awards
The Millennium PG 1 EF ECO2² adhesive exemplifies how sustainability and performance can advance together in demanding commercial roofing applications.
Key benefits include:
Naturally occurring atmospheric gases used as propellants, eliminating high global warming potential (GWP) alternatives
Fast, equipment free application, delivering labor and installation efficiency
Non penetrating adhesion, reducing thermal bridging and improving long term energy efficiency
By eliminating mechanical fasteners and enabling consistent adhesion, Millennium PG 1 EF ECO2 supports both lower environmental impact and improved system performance, making it a practical solution for sustainable construction.
Advancing Circular Packaging with Functional Coatings: Coativ™
Second Runner Up – ASC 2026 Innovation Awards
H.B. Fuller was also honored for its novel polymer platforms enabling functional coatings for paper packaging, now available under the ™ 1brand.
Coativ™ water based barrier coatings help brands and converters replace plastic and PFAS based materials with fiber based, recyclable packaging solutions without sacrificing barrier performance.
COATIV™ technologies enable:
Grease, moisture, and water vapor resistance
Improved recyclability and fiber recovery
Compatibility with adhesive systems for reliable package construction
Compliance with global food contact and sustainability regulations
By integrating adhesive expertise directly into coating design, Coativ™ delivers system level packaging solutions that support circular economy goals while maintaining operational efficiency.
Digitalization and AI are Accelerating Adhesive Development
Sessions such as Manufacturing and Supply Chain Digitization: From Intuition to Data Driven Decision Making and Embrace AI Today to Be More Productive reinforced another key takeaway: digital tools and AI are rapidly reshaping materials development and manufacturing, and customer experience.
