-
What’s the difference between Rakoll’s hot melt, reactive hot melt, and water-based adhesives?
- Rakoll hot melt adhesives are 100% solid adhesives applied hot and then cooled to form a bond. These thermoplastic adhesives are ideal for edge banding, soft forming, profile wrapping, post forming, and general assembly.
- Rakoll reactive hot melt adhesives are single-component, fully reactive adhesives that cure through moisture in the air and substrates, forming a strong thermoset bond. These adhesive types are commonly used in edge banding, LVT flooring, profile wrapping, and more.
- Rakoll water-based adhesives use water as a carrier. When the water evaporates, it forms the adhesive bond. This technology is suitable for veneer, solid wood, engineered wood flooring, and waterproof bonding applications.
-
What industries use Rakoll adhesives?
Rakoll adhesives are widely used in the furniture, flooring, door manufacturing, decorative laminations, engineered panels, window frames, and general woodworking industries.
-
Are Rakoll adhesives waterproof or water-resistant?
Many Rakoll water-based products meet D3, D4, Type I, and Type II water resistance standards, making them suitable for both interior and some exterior applications.
-
Can Rakoll adhesives be used on difficult substrates like recycled PVC, cork, or felt?
Yes, many Rakoll® adhesives are formulated to bond difficult materials such as cork, felt, and recycled PVC, making them ideal for sound-deadening and specialty applications.
-
What application methods are compatible with Rakoll adhesives?
The application methods compatible with Rakoll adhesives include foam roller, brush, spray coat, bead application, profile wrapper, web coater, and roll coater and hot, cold, or radio frequency (RF) presses, making them versatile for various production setups and throughput requirements.
-
How strong are Rakoll adhesives under stress or impact?
Rakoll adhesives are known for having high impact strength and durability, even with delicate or high-performance substrates.
-
Are Rakoll® adhesives safe and sustainable?
Yes. Rakoll® products with low monomer content and low formaldehyde content are free from hazardous labeling, exempt from ECHA restrictions, and support safe workplace conditions. Many are ISCC Plus certified and incorporate bio-circular raw materials.
