Next Generation Primers
Primers for Diverse Composite Materials
Primers are recommended when the adhesion to certain materials cannot be achieved directly due to surface energy or surface chemistry. The primer cleans the edge banding, laminate foil, or other composite substrate and evaporates off, leaving behind a good bonding layer. However, a drawback of traditional primers is their composition, as many contain
NEP (N-ethyl-2-pyrrolidone), NMP (N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone), Pyrrolidone, Toluene, THF (Tetrahydrofuran), and other substances that are increasingly regulated worldwide due to human health and environmental concerns.
H.B. Fuller is actively working to develop a NEP-free Intrafol™, Swift®prime, and primers that maintain high performance when priming materials such as:
- Anodized or painted aluminum
- PVC (polyvinyl chloride)
- PP (polypropylene)
- ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene)
- Low quality vinyl
- Specific recycled plastics
