H.B. Fuller Single Ply Membrane Adhesives, Sealants, Primers and Tapes

Fast, efficient and economical waterproofing membrane installation solutions

Billions of square feet of single-ply membranes are installed each year on flat and low-slope roofs. Their flexibility, ease of installation, and cost efficiency make them ideal for both new build and refurbishment projects.

The main membrane types include EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer), TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin), and PVC/KEE (Polyvinyl Chloride/Ketone Ethylene Ester), available in unbacked and fleece-backed options—each requiring specific adhesion approaches.

H.B. Fuller offers a comprehensive portfolio of high-performance adhesives for both fleece-backed and unbacked membranes, along with primers, waterproofing tapes, flashings, and sealants to support complete waterproofing systems.

EPDM membranes

EPDM membranes are synthetic rubber membranes that are highly flexible and resistant to weathering and UV rays. They are typically black or white, with a long lifespan. Our EPDM range consists of:

• Adhesives: spray-applied products for precise and fast application; high-strength traditional roll-applied products, developed for detail work; and solvent-free and water-based options, ideal for commercial and residential buildings.

• Sealants: edge sealants for securing exposed edges; water block mastics for providing a long-term moisture barrier; and fast-curing multipurpose sealants.

• Primers: a variety of primers developed to improve the adhesion properties of a wide range of substrates.

• Tapes: seam tapes to create effective watertight seams; flashing tapes developed for difficult joining and details; multipurpose cover strips to cover, protect, and seal; perimeter strips, developed specifically for reinforcing the perimeter; and primers, developed specifically for use with EPDM tape systems

TPO membranes

TPO membranes are made from a blend of polypropylene and ethylene-propylene rubber, creating a durable, flexible, and energy-efficient roofing solution. They are known for their strong resistance to UV rays, chemicals, and weathering. Our TPO range includes:

• Adhesives: spray-applied products for precise and fast application; and high-strength traditional roll-applied products.

• Sealants: edge sealants for securing exposed edges; water block mastics for providing a long-term moisture barrier; and fast-curing multipurpose sealants.

• Primers: a variety of primers developed to improve the adhesion properties of a wide range of substrates.

• Tapes: multipurpose cover strips to cover, protect, and seal mechanical fastening bars, membrane fasteners, membrane repairs, and seam overlays; and perimeter strips, developed  specifically for reinforcing the perimeter.

PVC/KEE membranes

Made from polyvinyl chloride and plasticizers, PVC membranes are flexible and durable plastic membranes with excellent chemical resistance and superior waterproofing properties. Ketone Ethylene Ester (KEE), a high-performance, solid plasticizer, is often blended with PVC to enhance the durability of the roofing membranes.

PVC/KEE membranes contain plasticizers, which provide flexibility but can also affect adhesion. Our range of bonding adhesives have been chemically formulated for the unique properties of non-backed PVC/KEE membranes. Various technologies and application systems are available.

We also offer a variety of primers developed to improve the adhesion properties of a wide range of substrates.

Fleece-backed membranes

EPDM, TPO, and PVC/KEE membranes can be reinforced with a fleece backing attached to the underside. This fleece backing enhances strength, durability, and impact resistance.

The fleece backing improves adhesion, as the membrane type doesn’t affect the adhesive used. They bond effectively with a variety of adhesives, even over rough or irregular surfaces. Our bonding adhesives have been developed specifically for securing fleece-backed membranes to a range of roof substrates. Various technologies and application systems are available.

We also offer a variety of primers developed to improve the adhesion properties of a wide range of substrates.

Benefits of Bonding Single Ply Membranes

Attaching single-ply membranes using powerful adhesives secures the membrane across the entire roofing assembly, without piercing the membrane or penetrating the deck. Adhered systems have been proven to be high-performing and long-lasting, enhancing resistance to high-wind uplift and minimizing thermal bridging, ultimately improving building energy efficiency. They lay flat and there are no visible fixings, making them the ideal choice for roofs that are in public view.

Why choose H.B. Fuller for your single ply membrane securing needs:

  • Superior adhesion: High-strength bonding for long-lasting performance.
  • Weather resistance: Protect your roof from harsh UV rays, extreme temperatures, and heavy rainfall.
  • Ease of use: Simplified installation processes, including spray-applied products, reducing labor time and costs, and enhancing efficiency.
  • Compatible with multiple roofing systems: Products developed and tailored to suit the specific properties of each single ply membrane type.
