Histoacryl®
Histoacryl® Clear & Blue
Histoacryl® tissue adhesive consists of monomeric n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate, which polymerizes quickly in connection with tissue fluid. This version is available in two colors: translucent, which is ideal for facial applications, and blue, which enables control over the quantity being applied.
Advantages of using Histoacryl include: easy application, ready-to-use, faster closure times compared to sutures, time and cost savings, less painful than a suture repair and has an effective microbial barrier.
Histoacryl® Flexible
The topical tissue adhesive and microbiological barrier product, Histoacryl® Flexible, consists of n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate and a softener. For easy assessment of the thickness of the layer that has been applied, Histoacryl Flexible is colored blue. An applicator tip facilitates creation of longer layers onto the surgical incision.
About Histoacryl®
The introduction of Histoacryl® in the late 1960s was a revolution for skin closure. The tissue adhesive made it possible to close small wounds without suturing. B. Braun was far ahead of its time with this product and became a market leader. Over 1,000 publications reflect the continuing popularity and high level of acceptance of Histoacryl as an alternative to sutures.
The adhesive was introduced under the provisional name “Histocoll” in clinical trials. At the same time, several symposia on the continually expanding area of application were organized, including Klebstoffe in der Chirurgie (Adhesives in Surgery), which took place in Vienna in September 1967. The Kassel Symposium in February 1968 was also dedicated to The Use of Adhesives in Medicine, and the experiences reported were documented in a special volume of the Melsunger Medizinischen Mitteilungen (Melsungen Medical News). It was at this time that the tissue adhesive received the name Histoacryl, under which it was introduced to the medical market.
The properties and advantages of Histoacryl remain undisputed: there are no needle holes, the wound can be closed more quickly, and there is no subsequent removal of sutures. The tissue adhesive also has a high mechanical strength and achieves excellent cosmetic results.
