Evaluation of a Bulge Reduction Technology for Corrugated Fiberboard

Since their inception in 1894, corrugated fiberboard containers have become the dominant form of transport packaging, generating $333 billion in 2019. These containers often suffer from deformation such as creasing, crushing, and bulging under compressive forces. Bulging, caused by stacking and internal bracing, can destabilize pallet loads, leading to space inefficiencies and potential damage during transit. Current standardized tests focus on compression strength, impact resistance, and vibration challenges but do not adequately address the issue of bulging.
