Wetting Envelope as a Tool for Maximizing Bond Strength

Posted 08/20/2018 by Matt McGreevy, Global Marketing and Product Manager, Engineering Adhesives

In recent years, to reduce vehicle weights and material costs, manufacturers of automotive are more frequently using polyolefins, which have lower surface energy than alternative plastics such as polycarbonate and Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS). This trend has made choosing adhesives and surface treatments particularly challenging for the automotive industry.

H.B. Fuller is committed to engaging with customers in the early phases of material selection and manufacturing process development to understand adhesive applications and assist with choosing the optimal adhesive and application method. Choosing the right adhesive is crucial to the quality and durability of an assembly. Wetting, or wet-out, is a critical factor in determining the effectiveness of an adhesive bond.
