Engaging the Next Generation in Corporate Social Responsibility

Posted 08/16/2018 by Anna Bosak, Community Affairs Specialist

H.B. Fuller is dedicated to supporting our communities around the world through philanthropy and employee volunteerism. Not only are our corporate social responsibility programs the right thing to do, CSR efforts have increasingly become an expectation from both consumers and employees. The next generation of workers expect that their employers will be socially involved, and take into consideration a company’s corporate citizenship when deciding where to work.

Each year, H.B. Fuller welcomes college interns to our global headquarters in Minnesota, and we encourage them to engage with our corporate social responsibility programs as they explore what aGroup of H.B. This summer, we invited our interns to participate in an exciting volunteer event organized by the Corporate Volunteerism Council – Twin Cities, of which H.B. Fuller is a member company. H.B. Fuller’s interns embraced the opportunity to get involved. Intern Philip Shady said, “Corporate responsibility and community involvement are both important to me because we have the resources to make a difference – and it’s always a fun experience to volunteer with my coworkers.”

Nearly 450 interns from ten companies came together at Target Field to volunteer with MATTER – a local nonprofit making a global impact. Volunteers worked on several projects that will help ensure access to healthy foods for individuals and families in need in our community and across the country. Together, the interns were able to pack 7,000 healthy meals. At the same time, they were able to network with peers from other local companies – helping to build connections and strengthen Minnesota’s future workforce.

Following the event, intern Katie Zoborowski shared: “Getting the opportunity to participate in a MATTER project at Target Field definitely increased my interest in H.B. Fuller as an employer. The fact that volunteer events, such as this one, are embedded in the internship program really emphasizes H.B. Fuller’s dedication to corporate citizenship and to giving back. Although the interns are only here for a short time, it is so special to learn about the company’s strong corporate responsibility program and be able to participate in that!”
