Electric Vehicles: Automobiles of the Future

Posted 10/28/2016 by Stephen J Neuman, Sr. Business Development Manager, Transportation

Electric vehicles are the new generation of eco-friendly automobiles, and everyone stands to benefit. In addition to being generally quieter, quicker, and cheaper to operate, they have a smaller environmental impact than conventional vehicles, making improved air quality a reality.

According to the International Council on Clean Transportation, 2015 saw a “wave of global electrification,” and the “global EV population hit a milestone in the second half of 2015 when the one-millionth modern plug-in electric vehicle was sold.” Electric vehicles are increasingly gaining in popularity as automobile manufacturers continue introducing new EV models to the market, and “the number of EV models continues to rise around the world.”

Electric Vehicles and Sustainability

Electric vehicles run smoother than the average combustion engine and are much quieter. These vehicles also tend to accelerate faster, and are charged via outlet, which means no more trips to the gas station or an increasingly depleted disposable income because of rising gasoline costs. In addition to being cheaper to operate because they do not run on petroleum, the cost of maintenance is significantly lower. No exhaust system, no oil changes.

Probably the most significant beneficial byproduct of electric vehicles is the fact that they are environmentally-friendly. These automobiles do not have a tailpipe, and therefore do not give off tailpipe emissions, particularly helpful when it comes to smog-forming pollutants. Overall, electric cars produce fewer greenhouse gases, especially when powered by plants that do not produce greenhouse gases. These vehicles also use less fossil fuels, and the energy they use is more efficient than gas-powered cars.

H.B. Fuller’s Electric Vehicles Solution

As technology continues to advance, and as electric vehicles increasingly become more practical and cost effective, automobile manufacturers require an advanced supply chain equipped with the latest adhesive and sealant technology. This includes thermal conductive encapsulants, structural adhesives, silicone sealants, cure in place gaskets, and epoxies—and H.B. Fuller is prepared to help.

Because automobiles made with less material (lightweighted) traditionally have less environmental impact, H.B. Fuller’s adhesives are the answer to both advancing the proliferation of EVs as well as ensuring that the lightweight design is optimal for the environment. Lightweight designs require less material to be extracted, thereby saving natural resources and helping to prevent material waste. These vehicles also oftentimes consume less energy because less is needed to make them move.

With more than 130 years of experience, high-performance automotive adhesive and sealant products and solutions is what we do best. For more information, visit our electric vehicles page or contact us today!
