Innovative Technology of Foam Adhesives for Micro-corrugated Boards: ACCCSA 2016

Posted 08/18/2016 by Marcos Rodriguez, Strategic Account Manager, Packaging, Mexico

In recent years, market trends for the corrugated and packaging industry have moved towards the use of less paper to obtain cost reductions, as well as the need to move from traditional corrugated packaging to micro-corrugated packaging. In countries like Mexico, where there is a wide corrugator market, this is already a reality. The brewing industry is a prime example, having started using micro-corrugated packaging for the six, 12 and 24 packs. This change not only delivers great customer benefits through greater structural strength of the final package and better overall quality, but it can also help businesses build stronger brand reputation with better packaging appearance, as well as savings in the production process.

With more than 130 years of experience as a leader in the packaging adhesives industry, H.B. Fuller supports customers through innovations, like our foamable adhesives that help improve in-line efficiencies, deliver good bonding performance, contribute to waste reduction and enable packaging adhesive savings of 25 percent to 40 percent.

This technology is particularly suitable for a variety of applications, such as bulk boxes, paper lamination adhesive needs, honeycomb, doors, panel lamination, tube ending, single-face lamination, solid-fiber lamination and veneering.

Also, foam packaging adhesives have many advantages. Using this clever adhesive packaging solution can improve lay flat properties, it can generate faster in-line setting speeds, as well as having excellent performance on recycled or highly absorbent surfaces. By using less packaging adhesive, curling is also considerably reduced, contributing to a better image quality of the lamination. Plus, did you know that you could reduce your average adhesive consumption? In conventional single-face lamination with PVA, the average adhesive consumption ranges between 32-40 grams per m2, but with our packaging adhesive, consumption can be reduced to 18-25 grams per m2
