H.B. Fuller Solutions to the Changing Automotive Lighting Industry

Posted 05/01/2018 by Jason Lenhart, Lighting, Exteriors and Glass Bonding Product Manager, Global Automotive

The automotive lighting industry continues to grow and change at unprecedented rates. According to market research firm Yole Développement’s report ‘Automotive Lighting: Technology, Industry and Market Trends 2017’, the automotive lighting market is rising at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.7 percent, from $25.7 billion in 2016 to an estimated $35.9 billion in 2022.

One technology that is rapidly displacing incandescent light source technology is Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). This trend towards LEDs gives H.B. Fuller electronics experts the opportunity to provide value beyond traditional lens and housing bonding. Associated applications could include potting, thermal management, thread-locking fluids, conformal coatings, general bonding of small electronic components, and electronics design and assembly.

In addition to moving towards “digital” lighting, the automotive lighting industry is quickly transitioning from mechanical Adaptive Front System (AFS) to high-resolution matrix headlamps. As a leading global innovator and supplier of lighting adhesive solutions, H.B. Fuller automotive lighting adhesives have been used in headlamps, tail lamps, and signal lamps for vehicles manufactured in the Americas, Europe, and Asia Pacific regions for more than 30 years.

In March 2018, H.B. Fuller lighting and product experts successfully presented our automotive lighting solutions at the leading trade event in China—13th Auto Lamp Industry Development Forum and 4th Shanghai International Auto Lamp Exhibition (ALE)—focusing on automotive lamp design and manufacturing. This exhibit featured industry experts sharing the latest market trends and technology breakthroughs in the automotive lighting market.

The forum focused on technology advancements that are currently being integrated into automobile lamps. During the event, we had the opportunity to speak with automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and tier one companies, which enabled us to better understand their needs and offer our value-added solutions for their automotive lighting challenges.

As new industry trends unfold and customer needs evolve, H.B. Fuller is committed to advancing our lighting solutions so OEMs and tier one companies have efficient manufacturing processes that produce high-performing products.
