H.B. Fuller Shares Flexible Packaging Expertise at Innovation Takes Root Forum, Feb. 20 – 22

February 17, 2012

Next week, members of our Flexible Packaging Group will participate in Innovation Takes Root 2012, a collaborative biopolymers forum for the global IngeoTM community. Held Feb. 20 - 22 in Orlando, Fla., the event is designed to give global companies an opportunity to collaborate and share successful applications of Ingeo bio-based products.

H.B. Fuller’s Wayne Eklund and Lowell Lindquist will present at a pre-forum workshop.  The workshop focuses on laminating with sustainable flexible packaging films. Creating packaging with sustainable films presents unique opportunities and challenges for film converters. As with any film, adhesive selection and process conditions are critical to success. The workshop will cover:
•    Practical techniques to improve lamination quality including special requirements of sustainable films
•    Typical adhesive technologies and differences in lamination processes used to create the final structures
•    The impact of adhesive on package integrity
•    How process and environmental conditions impact adhesion development

During the main forum, Brian Glasbrenner, H.B. Fuller’s North America Flexible Packaging Sales Manager will speak about the importance of laminating adhesives in enabling sustainable flexible packaging technologies. While laminating adhesives often make up less than 2 percent of the total package weight, if the adhesive does not perform, the package fails, the product fails and sustainable benefits are lost.
