Solvent-Based Composition Types
Polychloroprenes
Also known as neoprenes, these products are generally used in formulating contact bond adhesives. When applied to two surfaces, and completely dried to touch prior to combining, the adhesive offers immediate handling strength. As the bond ages it develops permanent structural bond strength. The adhesive bonds a wide variety of materials. Industries that might use these products include:

Styrene Butadiene
Also known as styrene butadiene elastomer, these products are generally used in formulating low cost adhesives; most of these types of adhesives are used for bonding fiberglass insulation or polyurethane foams to itself or other surfaces such as wood, steel, or plastic. Acrylonitrile Butadiene
Also known as acrylonitrile butadiene elastomers, adhesives based on these polymers are generally used for applications that require resistance to aliphatic solvents, oils, or plasticizers; end use examples are paint rollers or pads, oil filters, and gasketing.
Polyurethanes
Polyurethanes are used mostly in bonding plasticed vinyl films to wood, ABS, and polyurethane foam. This technology typically finds it’s way into manufacture of laminated boards for the furniture market.
Polyesters
This type of adhesive offers excellent plasticizer resistance; typically used for bonding a variety of synthetic films to plastic and metal surfaces; usually “vacuum bonded” in the assembly of three dimensional parts.
Polyisobutylenes
These products are normally used in formulating quality sealants for outdoor applications, such as window and metal building sealing. They help keep out dust, dirt , and moisture, and have excellent resistance to aging. They also have the property of remaining flexible over a wide temperature range.
Acrylics
Acrylics are used mostly for pressure sensitive adhesive applications; they form a water clear film with a wide variety of PSA properties. These high performance products exhibit high heat resistance compared to water based or hot melt PSAs, as well as excellent oil and plasticzer resistance.
