EFTEC

With 125 million cars on the road today in the U.S. alone—and 16 million new vehicles manufactured annually--the demand for adhesives, sealants, and coatings used in manufacturing and bodyshop repair continues to accelerate.

Through EFTEC, a joint venture with EMS-Chemie AG, H.B. Fuller is a driving force in the industry, serving major automobile manufacturers around the globe. EFTEC has also acquired a 48 percent ownership interest in the minority-owned Autotek Sealants, Inc. a Detroit-based supplier of adhesives, sealants, coatings, and formed parts.

Innovation, service, and competitive pricing are key to the products offered by EFTEC for use in the bodyshop, paintshop, and for trim (structural and nonstructural) applications. Adhesives, sealants, and coatings used in the manufacture of a typical automobile:

• Body structure - bonding metal-to-metal for body integrity

• Under the hood - assembling batteries and air filters

• Inside - for instrument panels, interior trim, seat assembly, and attachment of carpet and sound deadener pads

• Doors and trunks - Vacuum forming, hem flange, and carpet-insert attachment adhesives; sealants for door screens, interior seams and weather stripping

• Underbody - Expandable and foam-in-place adhesives and sealers

• Exterior - In the roof, with lighting, and bonding of windshields

Recent EFTEC developments include the following innovation:

• Waterborne Sound Dampers insulate the floor and wheel wells of new vehicles, eliminating or reducing annoying sounds.
